  • These kits will help welcome formerly homeless individuals into their new homes. Many of our clients are moving into their new homes directly from a shelter or off the streets with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Having essential items will go a long way in making their new unit feel more like a home and make their transition into housing more successful.

  • Hygiene items are also essential and something so many of us usually take for granted, but for people experiencing homelessness, it’s as critical. It helps them keep their dignity and their sense of self-worth. It makes them feel human, something that homelessness can strip to those who are facing it.

About The Photographer

Stay Gold Book Matt O'Connor

Matt O’Connor is a Navy Veteran and former EOD Operator. Although born in Washington State he has been living in San Diego for the last 5 years and considers this to be his new home. He has no formal training in photography and figured out what he knows through trial and error. He started shooting pictures after returning from Iraq in late 2019. The whole project came about after a long bout with insomnia. He felt compelled to document and share what he had been seeing on the streets. He states; “When I see a problem its hard for me to not to do anything about it, I’ve always had a creative side and this was just a way to express it. I was able to turn some of that negative deployment energy into something positive that made a difference.” He plans on working with Alpha Project for the foreseeable future by creating a fund that will provide support to homeless Veterans that have taken personal accountability for their situations and want to get off the streets for good.
